Atacama Desert

The Atacama Desert is officially the driest place in the World (least rainfall). The Cordillera de Domayko mountain range runs down the desert's Western flank, and the Andes run down the East - any moisture in the air gets dumped on these mountains before it passes over the Atacama; hence, you get snow on the mountains, and no rain in the desert itself. This photo shows Cerro Miscanti again (from a different angle from before; it looks like it has twin peaks when viewed from the valley floor).
