San Pedro

We crossed over the border from Bolivia into Chile, dropped down 1500m off the altiplano, and found ourselves in San Pedro in the middle of the Atacama Desert (still 2500m above sea level). What a contrast! Suddenly the air was warm and we could wear shorts again, roads were properly paved and food was palatable! The decent food left quite an impression on us after the potatos and chicken and potatos and chicken and potatos and chicken of Peru and Bolivia. This shot is of the main square in San Pedro, looking out through the church gate. The atmosphere was so chilled out, it was great to just relax after oiur whistlestop tour of the Bolivian altiplano around Uyuni.
